Autism Awareness - Detroit
Writer's Guild member continues to bring Autism Awarness to the public.
DWG member, Evelyn P. Holmes, is a teacher of preschoolers with Autism.
Autism is a rapidly growing neurological disorder that affects one out
of every 150 children; mostly boys. During April, (Autism Awareness
Month), Evelyn asked local artist, Terry Johnson, to help her with a
project for her students; painting the autism ribbon on the gym shoes of
the students and adults. As you can see from the photos, the gym shoes
are beautiful. Terry is one of the main artists who painted the
beautiful postal scene mural located in the Main Post Office on Fort
Street in Detroit. THE MURAL IS PHENOMENALLY LIFE-LIKE. Detroit
appreciates the talent of Artist, Terry Johnson, and his participation
in promoting Autism Awareness. You may contact Terry at

DOGON TRIBE OF AFRICA
The Egyptians were not the only people of African credited
with enlightening the world. Other tribes of people were also responsible
for astounding contributions. One of these, the Dogons, a tribe that most of
us have never heard about, live in the
Niger River's loop, in the
cliffs of Bandiagara.
Thousands
of years before Christ, the Dogons knew what planets were in our solar
system and the planets and stars of the Sirius system
—
all of which can not be seen with the naked eye or a telescope.

Like we
said... WE DO MORE THINGS THAN WRITE
We also serve our community. This past June, 2008, we went down
to Cass Park, passed out clothing donated by our members and friends and
fed more than 300 meals to the underserved. In November, we again went
out and passed out winter clothing and served donut and cider. This
project was the brainchild of one of our hardest working members, Rev.
Michael Jones (The Dancing Poet). Visit his website at:
http://www.thedancingpoet.com.

All of the above are reasons you should consider becoming a
member, supporter or patron of our organization. We have numerous ideas
and projects that we would like to implement. With your help we can. We,
therefore, are in desperate need of your financial assistance and
support. Visit "Who We Are" for more
info if you are interested in becoming associated with us. Our focus is
on Literature, Music, History and Community Service. Check out
our Photo Gallery to see
pictures of the things we do.
With warm regards,
Evelyn
